Keeping a PC healthy is not a big deal, but we forget to keep maintaining the tasks that keep the pc healthy, I am going to show you updating few settings can guarantee to make your PC faster & healthier by 20 to 30%The most interesting part of this guide is you don’t need to install any software, cuz no matter how good that software performs it will suck PC’s resources

and not everyone has a high-end PC that’s why we need simple ways to make PC faster

These are the 4 topics we will be covering in this guide step by step.

  • Optimizing Hard Disk:  By optimizing hard disk your PC’s data access speed will increase
  • OPtimize Visual Effects: By Updating this setting you can free more PC’s resources like ram & GPU, CPU
  •  Update System Settings: Few settings that can free 40% of your PC’s resources
  • Monthly Cleaning: Cleaning of hardware  every month to keep your PC healthy

#1. Optimize Hard Disk

First of all, if you installed any software to clean junk files and cache, cookies, you should know that you can manually do this work.

Don’t get the wrong idea, I am not discouraging you from using any software, but it’s a fact that third-party software use a lot of resources that can affect your PC’s performance,

So if you don’t have a high-tech CPU, graphics card, and ram then the fewer software you use the faster your Pc will run.

(A.) Unwanted Softwares Cleanup

The first tip towards cleaning is basic and every PC user should know that, cleaning the software that you don’t need.

It’s quite simple. When you are installing new software through a setup file, You have to read the file carefully, when you are installing it.

please uncheck or disagree to download other/extra software, and if you accidentally agree to download extra software along with your primary one, and find extra software installed.

then go to windows explorer >> Uninstall or change program (on the top section) and find the software that you don’t use and uninstall it.

(B.) Disk Junks Cleanup

Whenever you use your PC to do things like Browsing, watching videos online, archiving or extracting files, editing, playing games, working on Microsoft office, etc.

Almost every task you perform on your pc, creates temporary files, cache, cookies on your PC.

These files are not necessarily bad for your pc, In fact, these files help to load any page/software faster.

But after a long time, this file consumes lots of space on your hard disk and affects your hard disk performance. So you need to know how to clean these files.

Cleaning Process 1

So to clean these files,  first press the Windows button + R, and the Run box will appear, you can also search in the start menu for “RUN” to open it.

Then in the Run box type, “prefetch” and click enter. Then it may ask for permission, press  “Continue”,

and a folder will open with lots of files. Now first select all the files on that folder by pressing CTRL+A and then press SHIFT+DELETE (DEL)

to delete these files permanently. and some files may not be deleted, don’ worry about them. Next, open Run and do the same process for 2 more folders, “TEMP” and “%TEMP%”

Cleaning Process 2

Now to clean more junk files, Open Run and type “cleanmgr” or search for “Disk Cleanup” in the start menu.

after opening it, select the drive where you installed windows os. generally, it’s on the (C:) Drive.

After selecting the drive press, Ok, Now you have to select which files you want to remove from your disk.

Please check all the options boxes except Downloaded Program files & recycle bin. Well, if you don’t have any impotent file in the recycle bin.

and if you don’t mind deleting any downloaded program files, you can check all the options and hit the Delete option.

Then it will Delete all the junk files, that stored on your hard disk.

You can clean the disk by these two processes, but you should only use this process once in two weeks, to keep the pc healthy and run faster.

(C.) Defragment Hard Disk

Whenever we save, download, move, or copy any file or folder that data does not store in an organized location. It stores scattered fragments all over the disk.

But when you perform disk defragmenter, it’s starting to rearrange this scattered data on specific locations.

This process can increase your PC’s data access speed. That means whenever you open any file, folder, application it will load faster.

So, to start the defragmentation process.

First, Search and open “Disk Defragmenter” from the start menu. Then click on the (C:) drive and then hit the analyze button.

After analyzing if it shows more than 1% fragmented,  click on the (C:) drive and now press the defragment disk button.

It may take a few minutes, depending on how many fragments of data your Pc has. Don’t open any other software while it’s running,

and when it’s done it will show 0% fragmented.

Do the same process for other drives and your hard disk’s performance speed will increase, you can also schedule these tasks, or you can do it manually.

You can perform defragmentation once in two weeks. it will help to keep the PC healthy and run smoothly.

#2. Optimize Visual Effects

To get better performance and run your pc smoothly, you need to modify some settings, By optimizing visual effects, your Cpu and Gpu’s workload will be lighter, if you change this setting.

That means your Pc will consume low resources then usal to perform any tasks, So to optimize ,

go to  Start menu>> control pannel >> System >> advance system settings >> Advanced (Tab) >> performance (section) >> Settings (button).

Then performance settings will open, and  choose custom option, and then first click on the Adjust for the best performance option,

It will uncheck all the listed options below, then only check only those options I mentioned below

  • enable desktop composition
  • enable transparent glass
  • show thumbnail instead of icons
  • show shadows under windows
  • visual styles on windows and buttons

then click apply and ok. and that’s all the visual effects you need to look modern and run faster.

#3. Modify Settings

Changing some basic settings can give your pc a huge performance boost, So let’s modify some settings.

(A) Chrome Settings

Google chrome is a popular browser and as per StatCounter’s data, 68.89% of worldwide desktop users using Google chrome.

So I am guessing many of you guys use chrome as a primary browser, that’s why I am choosing Chrome settings to modify rather than any other browser.

First open Google Chrome  >> Settings >> Advanced >> System. Then turn off the “Continue running background apps when google chrome is closed ” option.

If these settings are turned on, even after closing google chrome, Chrome will run in the background and consumes resources.

So by turning it off your PC have more free ram and runs faster.

(B) Disable Windows Update

Getting windows updates can be very useful, You get the latest security, new features, etc.

But whenever we have limited internet data it becomes a problem and also windows update not only consumes the internet,

It also sucks your PC’s resources, this program always runs in the background.

So to disable windows update,

first, go to Start menu >>  search and open “Services” >> Scroll down until you find “Windows Update ” >>  Double click on it  >>  Choose “Startup Type” – “DIsabled” >> Click “Apply” and “Ok”

And windows update is now disabled, And if you want to Update your windows just do the same process and Choose “Startup Type” – “Automatic”.

(c.) Modify System Configuration

This setting can boost your PC’s performance to at least 15% because you can choose the software you want to run in the background

and which software automatically starts whenever you turn on your PC.

First, Strat menu >> Search for “System Configuration” and open it  >>  General (tab) >> Click on “Selective Startup” >> Check on “Load startup items” >>

Click on services (Tab) >> check ” hide all Microsoft services >> Click on “disable All”  >> Click “apply”

then, click “startup” (Tab) >>  Click disable all >>  Apply >> ok

and now your system will run a lot faster and smoother. And the Startup items on windows 10 can be located on the task manager.

(d.) Change Power Options

Power options settings don’t need to be changed all the time, The default setting is good enough. But in few situations, this setting can be really helpful.

You can search and find “Power Options” from the Start menu. There is three option you can find. If you don’t see the third option, please click on “show additional plans”

These plans are Balanced, Power Saver, High performance.

Balanced is the default plan and it’s ok to use this plan for regular usage. it reduces and maximizes Cpu’s power depending on the task.

However, If you have a laptop and its battery is running out, then you can use the power saver plan. This plan sets a limit on your CPU, and other resources,

You can use this plan when you are doing  simple tasks on your pc, like browsing, sending e-mails, etc,

And, If you feel your PC getting slow or lagging sometimes, and no matter what you do it doesn’t change. You can use the High-performance plan,

By using this plan your CPU and other resources will use the full processing power, And it will certainly boost the performance.

#4. Monthly Cleaning

If you only use these methods above it will help your windows stay healthy, and run faster but it will not help if your PC’s hardware getting damaged.

If you are a desktop user, once in a month open your computer case and clean the dirt with a dry and soft brash. mainly clean the CPU fan and motherboard,

Then clean the ram card and ram mount very carefully and place the card on the mount correctly. And if you are not sure

where to connect the right cables on the motherboard, then don’t disconnect.

Final Thoughts

If you followed this guide and done optimizing all the changes you can check how much Resources your PC’s consuming right now, If compare these results before changing any settings, you can see the huge impact these changes made for yourself.
